LIFE OF A FUNGARIUM

“The Life of a Fungarium” is a children’s book that we have created as a vehicle to uncover and explore our ideas of space conception in the Anthropocene. We began with a series of phase changing material explorations through the use of liquid latex that gave rise to an initial interest in the interiority created within the models. This then aided in the development of a series of experiments that attempted to explore the blurring of this ‘almost natural’ material with a more synthetic one while also amplifying textural space conceptions. This blurring was also done through the design of the structure of the book. The architectural drawings that are shown within the folds to further explain the views were designed to have the appearance

of childrens’ drawings, further blurring the distinction between the child’s understandings of a space through experience and the architect’s understanding through conventional architectural drawings.
